The SkyWatcher StarQuest-2 130/650 Newtonian is an ideal choice for those looking for a good quality, portable deep-sky observing telescope, even if you are a beginner. The 13 cm optics are large enough and of good quality to show the brightest galaxies, star clusters and surface details of planets and the Moon. Thanks to its high-quality parabolic mirror, it is suitable for medium to high magnifications.
The package includes a 20 and 10 mm eyepiece with magnifications of 32.5x and 65x. At this magnification, large, expansive star clusters can be observed well. As the Moon and planets are quite small at 65x magnification, it is recommended to buy additional short-focus eyepieces or 2x Barlow lenses.
The SkyWatcher StarQuest-2 mechanism is an improved, enhanced version of the earlier StarQuest. The mechanics head has been replaced with a sturdier, steel tripod instead of lower legs and the RA axis pulley has been increased in size, making it more durable. Like its predecessor, the StarQuest-2 has a Vixen-rail connection, so the telescope tube can be quickly removed and replaced with a single hand screw.
