The new Svbony SV503 ED 70 mm f/6.78 quadruplet APO tube holds a special place in the lineup of Flatfield ED telescopes. In line with the manufacturer's strategy, it once again matches the level of major brands at a more favorable price.
Optical Design
The minimization of chromatic aberration is guaranteed by the ED glass material containing FPL51 fluorite manufactured at the Japanese Ohara factory. The APO refractor consists of a two-element objective and an integrated two-element corrector. This arrangement ensures corrected, pinpoint imaging across the entire area of an APS-C sized sensor, making astronomy a joy.
Usage Range
The optics, with a 70 mm diameter and a 475 mm focal length (f/6.78), are primarily designed to meet the exceptionally high expectations of astrophotographers. Due to its compactness, it provides an unparalleled experience not only during astronomical observations but also in nature photography or wildlife watching.
Mechanical Solutions
The total length of the Svbony SV503 ED 70 mm f/6.78 quadruplet APO tube with the dew shield extended is 550 mm, and only 460 mm when retracted. Due to the weight of the high-quality materials used, it weighs 2.7 kg, thus still representing the easily portable category.
Precise focusing required for photography is provided by a 1:10 ratio, dual-speed Crayford focuser. The 2" focuser comes with a standard 2"-1.25" adapter, which is also equipped with a metal compression ring to prevent the clamping screws from scratching the camera or the diagonal/Amici prism. The precise setting of the focuser is facilitated by a 70 mm long scale with 1 mm increments.
As shown in the pictures, the telescope can be mounted on the mechanics with tube rings and a Vixen-standard dovetail bar. One of the mounting points on the dovetail bar is adjustable so that the retracted dew shield does not get in the way, while in the extended state, the balance position can be adjusted within wide limits. Additionally, it can be easily equipped with a handle from another manufacturer with a different hole spacing. If needed, it can also be used on a sufficiently strong video tripod, as the dovetail bar has a 1/4" photo tripod thread in the middle for securing the telescope.
