Thanks to its large clear aperture, the ToupTek off-axis guider (OAG-L) is well suited for astrophotography with APS-C and even full-frame cameras. It fits perfectly into the ToupTek astrophotography product range, allowing the individual components to be easily assembled into a complete setup.
Using it eliminates the need for a separate guide scope, meaning one less potential source of error during imaging. The ToupTek off-axis guider uses a 10 x 10 mm prism to redirect a small portion of the telescope's light path onto the guide camera sensor. Since the astrophotography camera and the guide camera share the same light path, the system eliminates errors caused by possible flexure of a separate guide scope.
The guide camera can be focused using the helical focuser. It features a 1.25" camera holder with compression ring retention, so the locking screw does not leave marks on the camera body. A T2 male thread is also provided at the end of the holder.
The telescope side features an M48 thread, but the included adapter also allows connection to an M54 thread. A ToupTek or ZWO filter wheel can be screwed onto the camera side; if no filter wheel is used, the included M54 adapter ring must be fitted, which serves as a 20 mm spacer. Cameras with a T2 thread require an additional optional M54/T2 adapter.
The ToupTek off-axis guider uses 17.5 mm of backfocus.
