The ToupTek G3M 678M monochrome camera is the ideal choice for solar, lunar and planetary photographers. The high resolution and small pixel size can capture beautiful details even in primary focus. But not only does the instrument perform well as a planetary camera, it can also be used for depth photography, especially of compact objects such as galaxies, globular clusters, etc. It can also be used as a guide camera thanks to its ST4 port.
The camera uses SONY 's state-of-the-art, high-sensitivity,back-illuminated IMX678 sensor. With a resolution of 8.3 MP (3840 x 2160) and a chip size of 7.68 x 4.32 mm, the 2 μm pixels on the sensor are capable of resolving very fine details, making the surface of the moon or details of planets look beautiful. Thanks to the 12-bit depth of field and STARVIS technology, you can expect a huge dynamic range and low noise.
The product does not have a built-in UV/IR block filter, so it is also extremely sensitive in the infrared range.
The ToupTek G3M 678M monochrome camera is capable of recording at the highest 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution at 47 frames per second. When using ROI (cropped format), this speed can be further increased, for example up to 70 FPS at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Stable and fast data transfer is aided by built-in512 Mbyte DDR3 memory buffer and USB3.0 connectivity.
For image capture, there's a range of free software available for download from the internet, SharpCap and FireCapture are particularly recommended for Windows, but the manufacturer's own software (ToupSky) is also great to use. The popular PHD2 software also supports the camera, while the use of the ASCOM driver gives the device even broader support. The camera can be used with Windows, Linux and even Macintosh operating systems.
