The ToupTek G3M 678M monochrome camera is an ideal choice for solar, lunar and planetary astrophotographers. Its high resolution and small pixels capture stunning detail, even at prime focus. However, it is not only an excellent planetary camera, but can also be used for deep-sky imaging, especially for compact objects such as galaxies, globular clusters and more. Thanks to its ST4 port, it can also be used as a guide camera.
The camera uses SONY's modern, high-sensitivity, back-illuminated IMX678 sensor. The 8.3 MP (3840 x 2160) sensor, measuring 7.68 x 4.32 mm, features 2 μm pixels capable of resolving extremely fine detail, making lunar surface features and planetary details beautifully visible. The 12-bit bit depth and STARVIS technology provide an exceptionally wide dynamic range and low noise.
The product does not feature a built-in UV/IR-cut filter, making it exceptionally sensitive in the infrared range as well.
The ToupTek G3M 678M monochrome camera can record at its maximum 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution at 47 frames per second. When using ROI (cropped format), this speed can be increased further; for example, up to 70 FPS can be achieved at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Stable, high-speed data transfer is supported by the built-in 512 MB DDR3 memory buffer and USB 3.0 connection.
Numerous free image capture software applications are available online. For Windows, SharpCap and FireCapture are particularly recommended, although the camera also works excellently with the manufacturer's own software, ToupSky. The popular PHD2 software also supports the camera, while the ASCOM driver provides even broader compatibility. The camera can be used with Windows, Linux and even Macintosh operating systems.
