The SkyWatcher Evostar ED DX 150/1200 DS-Pro apochromat is a real big gun, a planetary observer's dream instrument. Thanks to its special glass material, its two-piece lens is free of the colour aberration typical of acromatic lenses, giving it unrivalled contrast and sharpness. You may have noticed that we have a cheaper SkyWatcher telescope with similar parameters, so what's the difference? The DX designation probably refers to the deluxe designator, as the telescope has a very substantial 3.5" (85 mm)precision, 1:10 two-speed rack and pinion mount instead of the 2" Crayford mount. What's more, the premium optics, premium DX tube rings and the Vixen prismatic lens have been replaced by a Losmandy D-type prismatic lens.
Excellent planetary instrument
The SkyWatcher Evostar ED DX 150/1200 DS-Pro is an outstanding instrument for visual observation of the fine details of the planets. Its large 150 mm optics - among binoculars with lenses - give detailed images at magnifications up to 300x, but this is only the theoretical magnification, with ED-lens binoculars even higher magnifications are possible. The Moon is almost three-dimensional, as if you were flying over its surface. Saturn's ring, including the Cassini slit, and Jupiter's clouds with their tiny vortices are also visible.
The manufacturer's MHC coating transmits 99.5% of light per surface, maximising the telescope's light-harvesting power and brilliant contrast.
Precise focusing is facilitated by a 2", two-speed Crayford focusing knob and a 1:10 fine focus knob. An aluminium case is standard for safe transport.
