The Sky-Watcher 102/500 refractor telescope is the ideal choice if you are looking for an instrument that is not only perfect for exploring the night sky but can also be used during the day to observe the surrounding landscape. Its low weight makes it easy to carry, making it an excellent travel telescope.
With its 10 cm aperture, it gathers 62% more light than its 8 cm counterpart and also offers higher resolving power. For astronomical observations, we recommend magnifications of up to approximately 120x. This fast (f/5) telescope combines a huge field of view with a substantial objective diameter, revealing countless sparkling open and globular star clusters as well as faint galaxies. On your very first night, you can see more of the wonders of the night sky than Galileo did in his entire lifetime!
Its 2" (50.8 mm) focuser allows it to be used with a 2" mirror diagonal. A 1.25" reducer adapter is also included as standard. With wide-angle eyepieces, it can achieve an enormous field of view—up to 8 times larger than the full Moon—making observations of extensive star clusters and nebulae even more spectacular and enjoyable. The telescope can also be used as a telephoto lens with DSLR cameras.
The telescope tube is available in two versions: as a complete package or without accessories. The complete package includes 25 mm and 10 mm Super Barium eyepieces, providing 20x and 50x magnification. A 2x Barlow lens is a good choice for achieving even higher magnifications. The standard package also includes a 6x30 finder scope for easier target acquisition. In the AZ version, the tube is supplied without accessories, with the dovetail bar fixed to the tube in a position recommended for single-arm alt-azimuth mounts. (With other mounts, the finder scope may end up underneath the tube, which can be inconvenient in some cases.)
The telescope will keep you entertained during the day as well! It is excellent for observing the surrounding landscape, even at dusk. The supplied mirror diagonal provides an upright image, although it is laterally reversed. An optional Amici prism provides a correctly oriented image. When used as a spotting scope, we recommend an 8–24 mm zoom eyepiece, covering a magnification range of 20x–62x.
