Optical Tube Assembly
The Celestron 9.25-inch optical tube houses a 235/2350 Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system. This size has earned special recognition among SC telescopes: instead of the f/1.9 focal ratio used in other versions, its primary mirror has an f/2.35 focal ratio, providing a better-corrected field of view. Celestron engineers also pay particular attention to its optical finishing.
The standard equipment includes the company’s proprietary StarBright XLT coating, which enhances the telescope’s light-gathering efficiency. With this coating, the corrector lens achieves 98% light transmission, while the primary and secondary mirrors offer 95% reflectivity. It also improves image contrast. The standard package additionally includes a star diagonal, a 6x30 finder scope, and a 25 mm Plössl eyepiece, providing 94x magnification.
The optics in Celestron optical tubes are finished by hand (hand-figuring) and hand-matched; according to various tests, this consistently results in superior optical quality compared to competing SC optical tubes.
Advanced VX Mount
Celestron’s flagship Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes are now available on a truly advanced, astrophotography-optimised mount. The Celestron AVX series opens up new possibilities in astrophotography. The Advanced VX mount offers the features of Celestron’s most advanced German equatorial mounts at a significantly lower price.
The new AVX mount was specifically developed for medium-sized astrophotography telescopes. This allows owners of smaller telescopes to access the features of premium mounts, such as All-Star polar alignment and autoguider support. Guiding for long-exposure imaging is greatly aided by permanently programmable periodic error correction. With the AVX mount, you can image across the meridian without having to perform a meridian flip. This allows you to photograph celestial objects when they are best positioned for observation. Compared to previous solutions, the AVX offers significantly increased stability. Its improved motors deliver greater torque and track the telescope accurately even with slight imbalance.
Compared to large, observatory-class mounts, the AVX series also stands out among equatorial mounts for its portability. If you are just beginning to explore astrophotography, the AVX series is an excellent choice thanks to its ease of use and the possibilities offered by its advanced technology. The mount comes with two 5.44 kg counterweights as standard, and the complete setup weighs 35.83 kg.
