The professional-grade ZWO ASI 2600 MC Pro colour cooled camera features a premium back-illuminated Sony CMOS sensor, representing the latest technology with one of Sony's highest sensitivities and 16-bit colour depth. Compared to mono cameras, colour, so-called “single-shot” cameras simplify imaging for users who do not wish to use the L-RGB colour filter technique.
The ZWO ASI 2600 MC Pro colour cooled camera features a special, high-dynamic-range, back-illuminated APS-C format CMOS sensor measuring 23.5 x 15.7 mm (28.6 mm diagonal), combining exceptionally low noise with outstanding sensitivity. The sensor consists of 3.76-micron pixels, enabling particularly high resolution. Its 16-bit ADC converter and QE above 80% promise extremely high performance for deep-sky imaging.
The camera incorporates a high-performance Peltier cooler that keeps the sensor up to 32°C below ambient temperature, allowing even the fine details of galaxies to be captured. To compensate for its high cooling capacity, the camera also features an anti-dew heater. Even without cooling, the camera requires a 12 V power supply with a minimum output of 3 A, making an external power supply essential for operation.
The camera features a USB 3.0 connection, but can also be operated via USB 2.0. However, USB 3.0 provides a significantly higher image transfer rate, allowing more frames to be captured within a given time even at larger image sizes, which is particularly important for the 26-megapixel (6248 x 4176 pixels) sensor. The camera has a 512 MB DDR memory buffer, ensuring stable high-speed data transfer and greatly helping to reduce amp glow during long exposures.
A range of free imaging software can be downloaded from the internet; for Windows, we particularly recommend SharpCap and FireCapture. The camera requires Windows XP or later, but can also be used with Linux and supports Macintosh systems.
