The ToupTek G3M 224C colour camera stands out with its high sensitivity and exceptionally low read noise (0.75–1.5e). Its 3.75-micron pixel size makes it an excellent choice for planetary imaging. The built-in guide port also makes it highly suitable for autoguiding; thanks to its modern sensor, it delivers a limiting magnitude similar to that of the ZWO ASI 120 MM Mini, while producing less sensor noise.
Equipped with a Sony IMX224 sensor, this 1.2-megapixel camera delivers exceptionally clean, low-noise images even at shorter exposure times thanks to its extremely low read noise. Planetary images can be captured using very short exposures, resulting in higher-quality frames and ultimately sharper images with better resolution. It is also suitable for imaging fainter deep-sky objects—planetary nebulae, compact galaxies—and double stars. If required, 1.25" filters can be used with the adapter included in the standard package.
The ToupTek G3M 224C colour camera features a USB 3.0 connection and can capture up to 150 frames per second at its maximum resolution of 1280 × 960 pixels, with significantly higher speeds available when using a smaller region of interest (ROI).
Numerous free image capture applications are available online. For Windows, we particularly recommend SharpCap and FireCapture, although the camera also works excellently with the manufacturer’s own ToupSky software. The popular PHD2 software also supports the camera, while the ASCOM driver provides even broader compatibility. The camera can be used with Windows, Linux and even Macintosh operating systems.
