The TeleVue Plössl eyepieces are the top of the range of the popular and popular Plössl eyepieces, which will appeal to the discerning planetary observer. A number of premium features and improvements elevate these eyepieces above their less expensive counterparts.
The manufacturer has replaced the convex outer lens elements of the iconic Plössl eyepieces with concave lenses. The result? Excellent field of view correction: astigmatism and coma defects are almost undetectable even at the very edge of the field of view. Even in bright telescopes up to f/4, you get a sharp image from wall to wall in the 50-degree field of view (43 degrees with the 40 mm eyepiece).
Naturally, there are multiple layers of anti-reflective coating on all lens elements, not just the outer lens surfaces as with cheaper competitors. The lens edges are painted matte black to reduce internal reflections. A standard filter thread is provided at the bottom of the 1.25" focuser. Comfort of use is enhanced by a retractable rubber eyecup, with an anti-fallout solution on the focuser.
Perhaps the only drawback of the TeleVue Plössl eyepieces is the lack of viewing comfort at short focal lengths: below 10 mm focus, the eye relief is already somewhat short, so they are not recommended for spectacle wearers. (This is true not only for TeleVue but also for Plössl eyepieces from other manufacturers)
