It helps eliminate the prismatic effect caused by layers of varying density in the atmosphere, which separates incoming light from celestial objects into its component colours. This effect occurs as light from a celestial object passes through the Earth's atmosphere before reaching the observer or camera. In practice, this chromatic aberration appears as red or bluish colour fringing along the edges of the photographed object. When using monochrome cameras, it can also result in blurred planetary images. This optical issue becomes even more pronounced when observing objects closer to the horizon.
The Svbony SV199 1.25" ADC Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector Prism compensates for and corrects the chromatic aberration caused by the Earth's atmosphere. It is particularly well suited for astrophotography because the level of prism correction is adjustable, allowing it to be precisely matched to the atmospheric colour dispersion currently present. The colour-distorting effect of the atmosphere depends on weather conditions, the altitude of the imaged object above the horizon, and the type and aperture of the telescope used for imaging.
