The Svbony CLS filter (1.25") is an almost indispensable accessory for urban observing. It is an effective light pollution reduction filter suitable for both visual observation and astrophotography.
The CLS filter operates on a similar principle to a UHC filter, but offers a wider transmission range. It reduces the disturbing effects of light pollution to some extent, making the sky appear darker and significantly improving the visibility of emission nebulae such as the Veil Nebula and the Orion Nebula, as it transmits their characteristic emission wavelengths.
Of course, no filter can fully replace a dark, light-pollution-free rural sky, but a CLS filter provides a much higher-contrast image. Emission and planetary nebulae, as well as supernova remnants, can reveal details that would otherwise not be visible without a filter, or only under very dark skies. In addition, the CLS filter does not reduce the brightness of galaxies as much as a UHC filter.
