The SkyWatcher SynCam 585C color camera features a unique 55 mm diameter camera body. Some catadioptric astrographs position the camera practically in place of the secondary mirror. A larger camera body would cause additional obstruction, reducing light-gathering capability and contrast. This camera solves that issue with its compact design, avoiding extra obstruction. It pairs particularly well with the SkyWatcher HAC125DX astrograph.
The Sony IMX585 color sensor has a diagonal of 12.86 mm and a pixel size of 2.9 microns, providing a wide field of view even at higher resolutions. The camera is an excellent choice for capturing planetary and lunar images, as well as deep-sky images. Its high sensitivity is beneficial in both areas.
The 8-megapixel (3840 x 2160) sensor operates with very low read noise, maintaining low noise levels even at high gain during long exposure captures, while eliminating the "amp glow" effect typically seen during signal amplification.
The built-in UV/IR filter effectively reduces halo effects by filtering out unfocused UV and infrared radiation, resulting in clearer, more contrast-rich images.
Video recording at maximum resolution can be done at 44 fps (frames per second). This allows for a large number of frames to be captured in a short time, increasing the potential for higher quality images. The camera also supports EAA observation, enabling small groups to view the transmitted image simultaneously. This method is particularly suitable for observing the Sun (with a solar filter!), Moon, planets, and some brighter deep-sky objects.
The SkyWatcher SynCam 585C color camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 connector, allowing for much faster image transfer speeds, meaning more images can be captured in a given time with larger image sizes. This is especially significant for lunar and solar imaging.
