One of the main advantages of the SkyWatcher SynCam 585C colour camera is its compact size. Some catadioptric astrographs are designed so that the imaging device is positioned virtually in place of the secondary mirror. An excessively large camera body causes additional central obstruction, reducing light-gathering capacity and contrast. The manufacturer has eliminated this drawback with this astronomy camera measuring just 55 mm in diameter. An ideal match for the SkyWatcher HAC125DX astrograph.
The Sony IMX585 colour sensor has a 12.9 mm diagonal and 2.9-micron pixels, providing a wide field of view even at high resolution. The camera is an excellent choice for planetary and lunar imaging, as well as entry-level deep-sky photography. It is also suitable for electronically assisted astronomy (EAA), allowing smaller groups to view the live image simultaneously. Its high sensitivity is a major advantage across all applications.
The modern 8-megapixel (3840×2160) sensor delivers minimal noise even at high gain. Another key feature is the elimination of the "amp glow" effect typically encountered during signal amplification. The camera features a built-in UV/IR-cut filter for sharp, high-contrast images. It attaches to the telescope via a T2 thread, while a 1.25" adapter is also included in the standard package.
The USB 3.0 connection of the SkyWatcher SynCam 585C colour camera ensures high data transfer speeds. This enables video recording at up to 44 fps (frames per second) at maximum resolution. Large numbers of frames can therefore be captured in a short time, which is essential for sharp, low-noise images.
