The SkyWatcher SynCam 533C color camera stands out with its compact size. Some catadioptric astrographs are designed so that the imaging device effectively takes the place of the secondary mirror. An oversized camera body would cause additional obstruction, reducing light-gathering performance and lowering contrast. SkyWatcher has eliminated this drawback with this astro camera measuring just 55 mm in diameter. An ideal match for the SkyWatcher HAC125DX astrograph.
The Sony IMX533 color sensor features a 16 mm diagonal and 2.9-micron pixels, delivering a wide field of view even at higher resolution. This makes the camera an excellent choice not only for planetary and lunar imaging, but also for entry-level deep-sky photography. Its high sensitivity is a major advantage in both applications.
Thanks to the extremely low read noise of the 9-megapixel (3008x3008) sensor, the camera maintains low noise levels even at high gain. Another key benefit is that the "amp glow" effect commonly seen during signal amplification has also been eliminated. The built-in UV/IR filter ensures clean, high-contrast images.
The SkyWatcher SynCam 533C color camera features an USB 3.0 connection for high-speed data transfer. This also allows video capture at up to 40 fps (frames per second) at full resolution. As a result, a large number of frames can be recorded in a short time, which is essential for sharp, low-noise images.
The camera can also be used for EAA observing, allowing small groups to view the live image simultaneously. This method is especially suitable for observing the Sun (with a solar filter!), the Moon, planets, and some brighter deep-sky objects.
