The SkyWatcher StarQuest-2 mechanism is an improved, enhanced version of the earlier StarQuest. The mechanics head has been replaced by sturdier steel tripods instead of lower legs, and the RA axis pulley has been increased in size, giving it a higher load capacity.
Factory load-carrying capacity data makes the StarQuest-2 mechanics an ideal companion for short-focus lenses up to 100 mm diameter, 130 mm diameter Newtonian, 127 mm diameter MacSutov-Cassegrain and lightweight 150 mm diameter SC scopes.
Paired with a medium telescope tube, a quick deployable, yet portable "drop-in" mount can be assembled with the mechanics. The all-metal mechanics head features unobstructed fine rotation on both axes. Both shafts feature easy-release clutch clamping screws, an advantage for rough aiming.
The design of the mechanics head makes it compatible with Vixen rail-mount scope tubes. The steel leg weighs 2.4 kg and the head 1.4 kg, so you only need to move 3.8 kg of weight. The load capacity of the mechanics is about 4.5 kg ( for example: the 127/1500 MC tube weighs 3.4 kg, the Celestron 6" SC tube weighs 4.5 kg and the SkyWatcher Explorer 130/650 PDS Newton tube weighs only 4 kg).
