The SkyWatcher Fusion 120i Alt-Az GoTo mount fills a real gap in the manufacturer's range, as no similarly high-capacity yet compact and affordable Alt-Az mount has previously been available.
The Fusion 120i mount head weighs 8 kg, while the steel tripod weighs 5.8 kg, making it easy to assemble and transport. Its dimensions are also very compact: 214 mm wide, 335 mm deep and 467 mm high. It can accommodate telescope optical tubes fitted with both Vixen and Losmandy dovetail bars. The mount has a payload capacity of 12 kg, making it ideal for larger, short-tube catadioptric telescopes (e.g. MC, SC). (Unfortunately, the SkyWatcher MC 180/2700 optical tube does not provide sufficient clearance for observing close to the zenith.)
Although the mount features an Alt-Az design, it can also be operated in equatorial mode using an optional equatorial wedge. Dovetail clamps on both axes allow for quick manual positioning, while DC motors provide fine adjustment. Precision is ensured by 180-tooth worm gear drives. The mount head is secured to the steel tripod with a 3/8" threaded bolt. The tripod is 854 mm high with a 924 mm spread, which can be further increased thanks to its telescopic design.
The SkyWatcher Fusion 120i Alt-Az GoTo mount can be controlled using the included hand controller or via the built-in WiFi, using the free SynScan Pro APP or SynScan APP for Android or iOS.
The Fusion mount can be powered by its built-in lithium-ion battery or the included mains power adapter. The mount head features a DC socket for charging or power supply, a hand controller connector (RJ12), an ST4 autoguider port, a USB port for firmware updates, an on/off switch and an operation indicator LED.
