The SkyWatcher Avant AZ-EQ is the ideal companion for small binoculars if you want to avoid long preparation times before sighting. The all-metal mechanism head can be rotated around both axes without obstruction by fine adjustment. Also on both shafts are easily releasable clutch clamping screws, an advantage for rough aiming. Its fine adjustment screws have a non-slip ribbed rubber coating and can be reversed to the opposite side, which is especially advantageous for left-handed shooters. The mechanics head -as the name suggests SkyWatcher Avant AZ-EQ - can be easily switched to azimuth mode, in which case it can be used as a photo-video tripod for daytime observations, even under a spectral arc.
The balance shafts are made with the same 12 mm diameter as the EQ-1-2 models, and the fine adjustment shafts are also compatible, so they can be used with flexible fine adjustment arms (not included). The finely crafted mechanical head also has a spirit level ball and screws to adjust the polarity.
The mechanics head attaches to the steel tripod with a 3/8" (withworth) tripod threaded screw, so it can be mounted on any 3/8" photo/video tripod. A 1/4" tripod threaded connection is used to accept binoculars, making it a good solution for moving most cameras, thermal imaging cameras, video cameras and spectra. A coupling adapter must be purchased to connect prismatic binoculars.
The SkyWatcher Avant AZ-EQ steel leg mechanics are very easy to carry, 69 cm long when folded and 112 cm high when opened, which is further increased by the mechanics head and the extension pole that can be inserted in between, of which more can be used optionally. Additional stability is provided by the three leg support trays and the rubber grip cover at the end of the legs.
With its low weight, compact size and 3 kg load capacity, it is particularly suitable for short-focus refractors, newton telescopes and especially catadioptric short-build "outdoor" instruments.
