In terms of attachment to the mechanism, a tube-mounted prismatic rail provides a very convenient and practical option. The prismatic rail is most often attached to two tube rings rather than directly to the tube, allowing the tube to rotate in the rings.
A Losmandy prism rail can mount larger telescope tubes to mechanics with the appropriate connection (e.g. HEQ-5, EQ-6, AZ-EQ6, EQ6-R, EQ-8, etc.) due to its higher load capacity. The prismatic rail is 76 mm wide, 335 mm long and 15 mm thick, with a number of holes available for ideal mounting.
