Excellent imaging, rock-solid contrast, affordable price - that's perhaps the best way to describe the Baader Classic Orthoscopic eyepieces. We recommend these accessories primarily for planetary observation, where a large field of view is not a requirement but contrast imaging is essential.
The simple appearance of the Baader Classic orthoscopic eyepieces should not fool anyone: the puritanical exterior conceals a precisely polished and polished lens system, a true "ortho" quality. All air-lens surfaces feature Baader's own HT (High Transmission) anti-reflective coatings for maximum light transmission. Of course, the edge of the lenses are painted matte black, further reducing reflections inside the eyepiece. The recessed vulcanized design makes viewing easier and more comfortable, while the retractable rubber eyecups prevent stray light from entering the eyepiece. The Baader orthos are parfocal with each other, meaning there is little or no need to adjust focus when changing eyepieces. Unlike most orthoscopic eyepieces, their field of view is 50 degrees rather than 40-45 degrees, the same as the popular Plössl eyepieces. A standard filter thread is provided at the bottom of the 1.25" diaphragm.
Perhaps the only drawback of the Baader Classic orthoscopic eyepieces is that their eye relief is quite short below 10 mm of focus, so they are not recommended for eyeglass wearers.
