Would you like to capture the low-contrast detail on the surface of planets? Jupiter's cloud bands or the fine details of Mars' low-contrast shapes are difficult targets for astrophotographers. Fortunately, using special planetary filters can help.

The Astronomik Planet IR Pro filters transmit light in the near infrared range. In this wavelength range, atmospheric quietness is significantly better than in the visible range, which means that finer, more subtle details on the surface of planets can be photographed. The filters are also excellent for photographing all planets or even our celestial companions.

The Planet IR Pro 742 filter is recommended for 12-15 cm telescopes because it lets more light through. The IR Pro 807 version is a better choice for telescopes larger than 20 cm. Before buying, check the IR sensitivity of the camera you want to use with the filter!

The Planet IR Pro 642 filter is slightly different from the above two filters: its transmission range is strictly limited to 642 nm to 842 nm. For planetary photography it effectively reduces the harmful effects of atmospheric turbulence, and for deep sky photography it can be used as an affordable entry-level h-alpha filter, as its maximum transmission is in the h-alpha range (656 nm). This behaviour enhances the contrast of some deep sky objects under city or moonlight.
